The White Sox have played quite sloppy this series against the Minnesota Twins, including the Monday night victory. But Wednesday night was an abomination. The White Sox had a huge opportunity to make a statement against the reigning AL Central champs, but instead, they blew two games by playing the worst baseball.
The White Sox added four more errors on Wednesday’s 8-1 loss to the Twins, seven for the three-game series.
Reynaldo Lopez (1.2IP 4H 1ER 2BB 2K 53PC 1L) might have pitched his last game as a starter for the Chicago White Sox. The fault doesn’t fall squarely on him, but nothing about this game screams this guy deserves another chance. Maybe Lopez might have some success as a reliever. The White Sox don’t have somebody to take that spot immediately, but Lopez has squandered his chances as a starting pitcher.
The offense has only pushed three runs across over the past two days. In this game, they faced Twins ace Jose Berrios(6IP 3H 1ER 2BB 8K 99PC 1W), who was on with every pitch in his arsenal. Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, Eloy Jimenez, and Luis Robert went a combined 0-14 with six strikeouts.
The White Sox had another chance to make a statement against the Twins, and they failed. They can’t seem to beat the two good teams in the AL Central.
There is no time to be upset and wallow in defeat. The White Sox needs to come back refreshed and ready to play good solid baseball in this four-game series. The Kansas City Royals are in last place for the division, so they should be able to muster at least 3 out of 4 from them.
Dylan Cease will take on Danny Duffy on Thursday and look to get the White Sox back playing some good baseball. Cease needs to pitch well to give the bullpen some rest.
