The Rays have been good about answering the call after dropping a game this postseason, but game four presented quite the challenge. The Rays sent out inning-eater Ryan Yarbrough, and the Dodgers sent out young phenom Julio Urias. Urias had only given up one earned run this postseason and was not about to cut the Rays a break. The game was an epic back and forth that will go down as a classic World Series game. The Rays won in a thrilling 8-7 victory in the 9th inning.
The Dodgers got everything they would have wanted out of Urias (4.2IP 4H 2ER 1BB 9K 80PC). Unfortunately, the Dodgers bullpen just couldn’t hold the lead after he left the game. The bullpen (4IP 6H 5ER 4BB 5K 79PC 1BS 1L) blew the lead three different times and topped it off with a 9th inning blowup by Kenley Jansen. The Dodgers’ bats were hot again. They led by 3B Justin Turner and SS Corey Seagar, who went a combined 8-10 5R 3RBI 2HR. These two players made a genuine push to get the Dodgers one game closer to the Commissioner’s Trophy. On the other hand, OF Mookie Betts had an uncharacteristic night, going 0-5 in the evening. The lack of base hits would’ve played more into this loss if the bullpen wasn’t just a tad bit worse.
Ryan Yarborough (3.1IP 5H 2ER 1BB 1K 69PC) didn’t give up many runs before the Rays pulled him in the fourth inning. The bullpen (5.2IP 10H 5ER 3BB 5K 91PC 1W), which had been so good for the Rays, was off on Saturday. Luckily, the offense was there to bail them out all night in this crazy game. DH Randy Arozarena (3-4 3R 1RBI 1HR) just keeps breaking records this postseason. With his home run, he took over sole possession for most home runs in a single postseason. He also scored the most total bases in one postseason with at least two more games to add to this total. To end the night, Arozarena took advantage of Dodger errors to score the crazy game-winning run.
Game five will be on Sunday with a game one rematch; Tyler Glasnow will take on Clayton Kershaw.
