Fantasy MLB-Waiver wire adds August 31, 2020

We are midway through the baseball season, and more players are being called up to the big leagues to make their debuts. This week, players getting traded are allowing new players to make an impact on their team and your fantasy squads.

Dane Dunning SP Chicago White Sox, 15% Owned

Dunning got called back up for the White Sox on Sunday. He twirled an absolute gem against the Royals that will surely get the attention of fantasy owners to make him a must-add for this week. Dunning (5IP 0H 0ER 1BB 7K) pitched a no-hitter before manager Ricky Renteria took him out of the game. The bullpen blew his win, but it was still a fantastic start that should allow Dunning to stick with the White Sox for another start.

The White Sox put Gio Gonzalez on the IL, which should solidify Dunning’s chances of getting more than one start. The White Sox offense is playing well, reducing Dunning’s pressure to pitch shutouts for a win. The K ability is another tangible we all love on our fantasy squads, and Dunning has struck out 14 batters in his 9IP.

Bobby Dalbec 1B/3B Boston Red Sox, 4% Owned

Dalbec made his MLB debut on Sunday and impressed immediately.

He went 2-4 1R 2RBI 1HR against the Nationals and dispelled any residual misgivings the Red Sox may have felt after getting rid of 1B Mitch Moreland. The Red Sox traded Moreland to the Padres for two-position prospects, which leaves 1B open, and Dalbec could be the guy for the rest of the season. Grab Dalbec now when his ownership is low; he is an excellent stash-and-see option that can turn into a must-start. Moreland is batting well over .300 with the Red Sox and has been a  reasonably consistent part of the lineup.

Josh Fleming SP Tampa Bay Rays, 8% Owned

Fleming is on the best team in the American League. This is only his second start since being called up on August 23rd. He got a win for his debut, and on Saturday, he looked even better. Fleming (5.1IP 1W 6K 0ERA .56WHIP) dominated the Miami Marlins and now sits at 2-0 in 10.1IP. He has given 9K, enough Ks to be relevant.

When you factor in playing on an outstanding baseball team, the wins should stay consistent. The ERA and WHIP look like they should be reliable as well. I would highly recommend picking up Fleming and riding him out since it seems like he has carved out some starts with the Rays.
