If you are still alive in your fantasy baseball league, congratulations, you are one week away from being the 2020 Fantasy Baseball Champ. One week between you and a year’s worth of bragging rights (and maybe a little $$). The pressure to make the right decision on your pickups has never been greater. Here are three players to help ease the stress on the road to your final victory.
Kyle Gibson SP Texas Rangers 14% Owned
Kyle Gibson has been pretty bad in what has been a lost season for the Rangers. But in his last start, he showed he might have some streamability. Gibson (9IP 1W 9K 0ERA .78WHIP) had his best start of the season against the Houston Astros, who are fighting for their playoff spot. On Monday, he gets a start against the Anaheim Angels, another struggling ballclub with an inconsistent offense, and his last start of the season is scheduled to be against the Astros over the weekend. Gibson can’t help the Rangers with their standings, but he still has a chance to help some fantasy teams win the gold.
Kyle Freeland SP Colorado Rockies 34% Owned
A Rockies pitcher in championship week, I know. You won’t regret taking the chance on Freeland as he will be a significant factor for title teams this year. Freeland (18.1IP 15K 2.95ERA 1.09WHIP) has been pretty good over the last two weeks, even though he has not gotten any wins. The peripheral numbers are nice for a pitcher on a team still fighting for a playoff spot. Freeland will get to face the Giants on Tuesday in San Francisco then finish up his season on the weekend against the Diamondbacks in Arizona. Neither start will be in hitter-friendly Coors Field.
Jared Walsh 1B Anaheim Angels 50% Owned
Walsh’s ownership has jumped up because he just hasn’t stopped hitting since he has been called up. He has been on fire over the last two weeks (18-46 11R 6HR 15RBI .391AVG) and has enough protection around him. He has been hitting two for the Angels in every game he played this past week with Mike Trout, Anthony Rendon, and Shohei Ohtani all behind him. The Angels are not playing for anything this week, so they should give Walsh every opportunity to keep this hot streak going.
