Bears-They Are Who We Thought They Were!

Head coach Dennis Green was coaching the Arizona Cardinals when he had his famous blowup after his team blew a massive lead against the Bears in a Monday Night Football game in 2009. Green famously said, “They are who we thought they were! You want to crown their asses? then crown them.” That was a huge win for the Bears that year, but this week’s loss for the Bears against the Tennessee Titans, showed who the Bears really are.

The Bears started this season 5-1, but after Sunday’s loss, their record sits at 5-4. This was the worst game I’ve seen the Bears play all season. The score was only 24-17, but the Bears looked completely outmatched and outcoached throughout the game. The offense, defense, coaching, and special teams were all off on Sunday. The Bears scored some late points in garbage time after the Titans pulled the majority of their starters.

Yes, the Bears were playing with an extremely thin offensive line. Many of their starters were injured, and some were put on the Covid list, but the game plan head coach Matt Nagy employed was atrocious, that is me being nice about it as well. The Bears didn’t score their first points until the fourth quarter with 12:30 left in the game. For more than ¾ of this game, the Bears offense could do nothing, which is the bigger issue.

I’ve brought this up before, and I will bring it up again. Matt Nagy is supposed to be an offensive guru, but the Bears’ offense has gotten worse as each week passes. This lack of willingness to change up the play calling or to change his game plan based on who he has on the field will keep costing the Bears. The same can be said for the QB play. After Nagy benched Mitch Trubisky for Nick Foles, the QB play has only gotten worse.

The only good thing in this game was the rush defense. They completely shut down one of the best RB in the league. Derrick Henry was only able to manage 68YDS on the ground. That was the only thing in this game to be happy about heading into week 10. The Bears have to play the surging Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football. The Vikings have looked like a totally different team since their bye week, so Nagy better have the Bears ready to play or it will be another primetime embarrassment for the Bears in 2020.
