The Bears have officially ended their six-game losing streak with their dominant victory over the Houston Texans, winning 36-7. This win was huge for QB Mitch Trubisky (24-33 267YDS 3TD 68QBR 126.7RTG), who had a much better game than fellow draftee QB Deshaun Watson (21-30 219YDS 1TD 7CAR 38YDS 60.5QBR 101.9RTG). Watson and QB Pat Mahomes have been a painful reminder of what the Bears could have had. Both were available when the Bears drafted Trubisky 2nd overall in 2017. But now, we have the luxury of saying that Trubisky had the better game for one week. For one week, Trubinsky shut up his critics and got a much-needed win for the playoff-chasing Bears.
The Bears played a perfect game on the field, and even the coaching was up to snuff. The biggest question I have after this game is, where has this team been all season? I know the Texans haven’t been much to talk about this season, but the domination that Bears fans witnessed has me wondering what could’ve been this season. The Bears had a 100 yard rusher (David Montgomery), a 100 yard receiver (Allen Robinson), and zero turnovers on offense for the first time this season. The defense led by DE/LB Khalil Mack (2TOT 1SACK 1FF 1FUM REC) just made Watson and the Texans’ offense look like a high school team.
As a Bears fan, I’m not sure how to feel about this victory. On the one hand, I want to see see what Trubisky has to offer these last three games. Will the Bears find out if they will keep him or test their hand in the 2021 draft for the next Bears QB. On the other hand, the Bears lower their draft pick by winning these games. And I have no confidence in this team being able to make any kind of noise in the playoffs.
The Bears need to either play with this effort for each of the last three games and head into the playoffs or pack it in and play the young guys to get a better sense of what is needed in the offseason. Regardless of how the Bears finish this season, one thing is clear, head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace have to go if the Bears want to get back to being a threat in the NFC North and bring some titles back to Chicago.
